Angus Stanley King Jr. serves as the junior U.S. Senator from Maine, an Independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats and is in his third term since first elected in 2012. A University of Virginia Law graduate and former staffer to Senator William Hathaway, King built a diverse career as an energy lawyer, small-business owner, and Maine governor from 1995 to 2003, establishing a reputation for business-oriented reform and pragmatism. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the Intelligence, Armed Services, Energy and Natural Resources, Finance, and Rules committees, where he chairs the Strategic Forces subcommittee on Armed Services. King has been a national leader on cybersecurity policy as a co-chair of the congressional Cyberspace Solarium Commission, and he focuses on Maine's forests, fisheries, offshore wind development, shipbuilding, and defense sector jobs.
