Biography

Ayanna Pressley is a 4-term Democratic U.S. Representative from Massachusetts's 7th District and a progressive 'Squad' member who chairs the Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets.

Ayanna Soyini Pressley has represented Massachusetts's 7th Congressional District covering Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville since 2018, making history as the first Black woman elected to represent Massachusetts in Congress. A Boston University graduate and longtime constituent services aide to Senator John Kerry and Representative Joseph Kennedy II, Pressley served on the Boston City Council as the first Black woman ever elected to that body before defeating a longtime incumbent in the 2018 primary. A member of the influential progressive 'Squad,' she serves on the House Financial Services Committee with assignments to the Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence subcommittee, and the Oversight Committee. Pressley champions criminal justice reform, student debt cancellation, housing security, and health equity, focusing her work on issues affecting working-class and communities of color constituents.
