Biography

Chris Pappas is a Democratic U.S. Representative from New Hampshire's 1st District, a restaurateur running for U.S. Senate in 2026.

Christopher Charles Pappas represents New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District as a Democrat first elected in 2018, serving his fourth term. A graduate of Harvard University, Pappas helped run his family's Manchester restaurant, the Puritan Backroom, before entering politics. He served on the New Hampshire Executive Council and in the state House of Representatives before his congressional election. Pappas is one of the first openly gay members of Congress from New Hampshire. He serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure and Veterans' Affairs committees, focusing on small business, infrastructure, and LGBTQ+ rights. Pappas announced in April 2025 that he is running for U.S. Senate in 2026 to succeed retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
