Chris Smith is a Republican U.S. Representative from New Jersey's 4th District and the longest-serving current member of the New Jersey congressional delegation.
Christopher Henry Smith represents New Jersey's 4th Congressional District as a Republican first elected in 1980, serving his twenty-third term. Smith is tied with Hal Rogers for the longest currently serving member of the House and is the longest-serving member of Congress in New Jersey history. He represents Monmouth and Ocean counties along the Jersey Shore. Known for his focus on international human rights, Smith co-chairs the Congressional-Executive Commission on China and chairs the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organization. He authored the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and has been a leading voice against human trafficking and Communist China's human rights violations. A pro-life Catholic, Smith remains one of the few Republican moderates from the Northeast.
