Chuck Grassley is Iowa's Republican senator and the longest-serving party member in Senate history, currently serving his eighth term and as President pro Tempore.
Charles Ernest Grassley is the senior U.S. Senator from Iowa, a Republican first elected to the Senate in 1980 and now in his eighth term after winning re-election in 2022. A lifelong Iowa farmer from New Hartford, Grassley served in the Iowa House for sixteen years and in the U.S. House for three terms before reaching the Senate. He has chaired or served as ranking member of the Judiciary, Finance, Budget, and Agriculture committees. In the 119th Congress, Grassley resumed the chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was sworn in as President pro Tempore of the Senate, third in line to the presidency. He serves on Finance, Agriculture, Budget, and the Joint Committee on Taxation. Grassley is known for his meticulous oversight of federal agencies, whistleblower protections, agricultural policy, judicial nominations, and prescription drug pricing. He is the longest-serving Republican senator in American history.
