Cleo Fields is the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, a Democrat who previously served in the House from 1993 to 1997 representing a different Louisiana district. After a 28-year absence, he was returned to Congress in 2024 after court-ordered redistricting created a second Black-majority district in Louisiana. A graduate of Southern University and the Southern University Law Center, Fields served in the Louisiana State Senate and ran for governor in 1995, becoming one of the youngest African Americans elected to Congress at age 30. His current district stretches across the state connecting Baton Rouge and Shreveport. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the House Financial Services Committee, focusing on voting rights, civil rights, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
