Darrell Issa is a Republican U.S. Representative from California's 48th District and former chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
Darrell Edward Issa is the U.S. Representative for California's 48th Congressional District, a Republican who first served in the House from 2001 to 2019 and returned to Congress in 2021. A U.S. Army veteran, Issa built a substantial business fortune founding Directed Electronics, the manufacturer of the Viper car alarm system, and remains one of Congress's wealthiest members. He previously served as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and is a senior member of the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees in the 119th Congress. In the 119th Congress, Issa serves on the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet, and on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee's Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight. His legislative priorities include intellectual property protection, immigration enforcement, executive branch oversight, and advancing technology policy. Issa is a leading Republican voice on oversight issues and has maintained significant influence despite announcing in March 2026 that he would not seek re-election.
