David Schweikert is the U.S. representative for Arizona's 1st Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2011 serving his eighth term. A Los Angeles native who moved to Arizona as a child, Schweikert earned a bachelor's and an MBA from Arizona State University and worked in real estate development before his political career. He served in the Arizona House, as chairman of the Arizona Board of Equalization, and as Maricopa County treasurer, bringing finance and tax expertise to Congress. In the House, Schweikert sits on the Ways and Means Committee and chairs the Oversight Subcommittee. He was appointed chair of the Joint Economic Committee, bringing focus to fiscal policy, entitlement program sustainability, and economic competitiveness. His legislative priorities include financial technology and digital assets policy, biomedical innovation, and broader tax reform. In September 2025, Schweikert announced he would not seek re-election but would instead run for the Republican nomination for Arizona governor in 2026.
