Don Beyer is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Virginia's 8th District and former U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Donald Sternoff Beyer Jr. is the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 8th Congressional District, serving since 2015 and currently in his sixth term. A graduate of Williams College with a graduate degree in economics from George Mason University, Beyer is a businessman who owns an automobile dealership chain. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1998 and as U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein from 2009 to 2013 under President Obama, where he advocated for stronger sanctions against Iran and worked to prevent Swiss bank secrecy abuses. Representing a district encompassing Arlington, Alexandria, and portions of Fairfax County in Northern Virginia, Beyer sits on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. He is an active member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Joint Economic Committee, focusing on tax policy, climate change, economic equity, and scientific advancement.
