Doris Matsui is a California Democratic congresswoman and ranking member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, representing Sacramento since 2005.
Doris Okada Matsui represents California's 7th Congressional District, encompassing Sacramento and surrounding communities, as a Democrat first elected in a 2005 special election and now serving her eleventh term in the 119th Congress. Born in the Poston War Relocation Center in Arizona, where her Japanese American family was interned during World War II, Matsui grew up in California, graduated from UC Berkeley, and worked as a Democratic activist. She served in the Clinton White House as deputy assistant to the president and deputy director of public liaison before being elected to Congress following the death of her husband, longtime Representative Robert Matsui. In the 119th Congress, Matsui serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce as ranking member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, leveraging her expertise in telecommunications policy. She focuses on broadband access and internet infrastructure, clean energy and climate policy, telecommunications regulation, flood protection for Sacramento on the American River, and Asian American civil rights, advancing policies that reflect the diverse needs of California's capital region.
