Eugene Simon Vindman is the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 7th Congressional District, serving since January 2025. A retired U.S. Army colonel who served as an ethics lawyer on the National Security Council, Vindman gained national attention in 2019 when his twin brother Alexander Vindman raised concerns about President Trump's call with Ukrainian President Zelensky, which led to the first Trump impeachment. Eugene himself reported the call to senior White House lawyers based on his NSC position. Both brothers were subsequently removed from the NSC. Born in the Soviet Union and arriving in the United States as a child refugee, Vindman earned an advanced degree and practiced law before his NSC service. He won the 2024 Democratic primary with ease and defeated Republican Derrick Anderson in the general election. Vindman sits on the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees, bringing national security expertise and commitment to ethical governance to his work.
