U.S. Representative from SC, District 6

Jim Clyburn is a Democratic U.S. Representative from South Carolina's 6th District, civil rights activist, and former House Majority Whip.
James Enos Clyburn represents South Carolina's 6th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 1992 serving his seventeenth term representing a majority-Black district covering parts of Columbia, Charleston, Orangeburg, and rural Lowcountry and Midlands areas. A South Carolina State University graduate, Clyburn was a civil rights activist arrested multiple times during the 1960s movement, then worked as a teacher, state human affairs commissioner, and campaign manager before his congressional election. He served as House Majority Whip from 2007 to 2011 and 2019 to 2023, becoming the highest-ranking African American in congressional history at that time. His endorsement of Joe Biden before the 2020 South Carolina primary is credited with reviving Biden's campaign. In the 119th Congress, he serves on Appropriations (Energy and Water Development, and Interior and Related Agencies subcommittees).
