James Comer (R-KY-1) is chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and former Kentucky agriculture commissioner.
James R. Comer Jr. is the U.S. Representative for Kentucky's 1st Congressional District, a Republican first elected in a 2016 special election and serving his sixth term. A farmer and graduate of Western Kentucky University, Comer served in the Kentucky House of Representatives and as Kentucky commissioner of agriculture, where he helped launch the state's industrial hemp pilot program. He narrowly lost the 2015 Republican gubernatorial primary. His district stretches from the Tennessee border through the Jackson Purchase and Pennyrile regions of western Kentucky. In the 119th Congress, he chairs the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, which oversees federal waste, government efficiency, and investigations. He also serves on the Agriculture and Education and Workforce committees.
