Jan Schakowsky represents Illinois's 9th District as a Democrat, senior Energy and Commerce Committee member, chief deputy whip, and prominent voice on consumer protection, healthcare, and reproductive rights.
Janice Danoff Schakowsky is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 9th Congressional District, serving her fourteenth term since 1998. A University of Illinois graduate, she worked as a consumer advocate and executive director of the Illinois Council of Senior Citizens before serving eight years in the Illinois House of Representatives. In the 119th Congress, Schakowsky serves as chief deputy whip and on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where she is ranking member of the Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee. She announced in May 2025 that she would not seek reelection in 2026, concluding a distinguished career advancing consumer protection, healthcare expansion, reproductive rights, and U.S. Middle East policy.
