Jimmy Panetta is a California Democratic congressman representing the 19th District, former federal prosecutor and Navy Reserve officer, son of Leon Panetta.
James Varni Panetta represents California's 19th Congressional District, a Central Coast district stretching from Santa Cruz through San Luis Obispo counties, as a Democrat first elected in 2016 and now serving his fifth term in the 119th Congress. The son of Leon Panetta, former U.S. representative, White House chief of staff, CIA director, and secretary of defense, Jimmy Panetta graduated from UC Davis and Santa Clara University School of Law. He worked as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice and as a deputy district attorney in Monterey County, and served as a U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer with deployment experience in Afghanistan. In the 119th Congress, Panetta serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on the Budget, and holds the position of Chief Deputy Whip in the Democratic Caucus. His legislative priorities include Central Coast agriculture, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and marine policy, veterans affairs, trade policy, and federal fiscal responsibility, leveraging his prosecutorial background and military service experience to advance policies benefiting the Central Coast region and the nation.
