John Henry Rutherford is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 5th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2016 serving his fifth term representing a North Florida district covering much of Jacksonville and Duval County. A graduate of Florida State University, Rutherford spent over forty years in law enforcement with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, serving as the elected sheriff of Duval County for three terms from 2003 to 2015 before entering Congress. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the House Appropriations Committee with assignments to three key subcommittees: Homeland Security, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development.
