Julia Brownley is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 26th District, focused on women veterans and climate issues in her seventh term representing Ventura County.
Julia Andrews Brownley is the U.S. Representative for California's 26th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2012 and currently serving her seventh term in the 119th Congress representing Ventura County on California's south coast. Born in Aiken, South Carolina, and educated at Mount Vernon College for Women and American University, Brownley worked in marketing and publishing before serving on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District board and six years in the California State Assembly, where she chaired the Education Committee. In the House she serves on the Veterans' Affairs Committee as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Health and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where she serves on the Subcommittees on Aviation, Highways and Transit, and Water Resources. Her priorities include women veterans' healthcare, climate resilience, coastal protection, and surface transportation. In January 2026, she announced she will not seek re-election at the end of her current term.
