Katie Boyd Britt, a Republican first elected in 2022 and sworn in January 2023, made history as Alabama's first woman senator and, at 40, the youngest Republican woman ever to serve in the chamber. A native of Enterprise, Alabama, Britt graduated from the University of Alabama and its law school, worked as Senator Richard Shelby's chief of staff, and led the Business Council of Alabama before her Senate campaign. In the 119th Congress, she chairs the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee and serves on the Banking and Judiciary committees, concentrating on border enforcement, child care affordability, housing policy, and federal defense and aerospace investment in Alabama. Britt delivered the Republican response to President Biden's 2024 State of the Union Address and has emerged as a rising figure in GOP leadership circles focused on practical solutions to economic and security challenges.
