Kevin Cramer is a Republican North Dakota senator, former three-term congressman and state public service commissioner serving his second term.
Kevin John Cramer serves as the junior U.S. Senator from North Dakota, a Republican elected in 2018 by defeating Democratic incumbent Heidi Heitkamp and re-elected in 2024. A Kindred, North Dakota native, Cramer earned degrees from Concordia College and the University of Mary and worked in economic development and radio broadcasting before serving as chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party and on the North Dakota Public Service Commission, the state's utility regulatory body. He served three terms as North Dakota's at-large U.S. Representative before moving to the Senate. In the 119th Congress, Cramer serves on the Armed Services, Environment and Public Works, Banking Housing and Urban Affairs, and Veterans' Affairs committees, and is the first North Dakotan to serve on Armed Services. He has focused on energy production, particularly Bakken oil and gas development, agriculture, rural infrastructure, military construction, and advancing U.S. defense capabilities including nuclear and space missions critical to North Dakota bases.
