Lauren Underwood represents Illinois's 14th District as a Democrat, registered nurse, member of the House Appropriations Committee, and founder of the Black Maternal Health Caucus.
Lauren Ashley Underwood is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 14th Congressional District, serving her fourth term since 2019. A registered nurse and graduate of the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University, she worked at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services implementing the Affordable Care Act before winning her seat at age 32, becoming the youngest Black woman ever elected to Congress. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Appropriations Committee (acting ranking member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee and serving on the Agriculture subcommittee). She founded the Black Maternal Health Caucus and prioritizes healthcare affordability, maternal and reproductive health outcomes, rural healthcare access, and economic opportunity.
