Linda Sánchez is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 38th District, the first Latina on Ways and Means and ranking member of its Trade Subcommittee, serving in the 119th Congress.
Linda T. Sánchez is the U.S. Representative for California's 38th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2002 and currently serving her twelfth term in the 119th Congress representing a southeast Los Angeles County district including Cerritos, Norwalk, and Whittier. A daughter of Mexican immigrants and one of seven siblings, Sánchez graduated from UC Berkeley and UCLA School of Law and worked as a labor and civil rights lawyer before entering Congress. For a time she served alongside her sister Loretta Sánchez, making them the first sisters to serve together in Congress. In the 119th Congress she sits on the Ways and Means Committee, where she is the ranking member of the Trade Subcommittee, making her the first Latina to serve on Ways and Means and as a ranking member on the subcommittee. She previously chaired the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and focuses on labor, tax, trade, and immigration policy.
