Lloyd Alton Doggett II is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 37th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 1994 and serving his sixteenth term. He is the longest-serving current House member from Texas and dean of the delegation following Sheila Jackson Lee's death in 2024. A University of Texas graduate and law school alumnus, Doggett served as a justice on the Texas Supreme Court and in the Texas Senate before his congressional election. He represents a district covering most of Austin. Doggett sits on the House Ways and Means Committee as ranking member of the Health Subcommittee, the Ways and Means Tax Subcommittee, the Joint Committee on Taxation, and the House Budget Committee. He focuses on tax policy, healthcare, and Latino community issues. He won reelection in 2024 with 74.2% of the vote but announced in August 2025 he would not seek reelection if Texas's new congressional map was upheld.
