Mike Simpson is an Idaho Republican, senior appropriator, and snake river advocate serving his fourteenth House term since 1998.
Michael Keith Simpson represents Idaho's 2nd Congressional District, serving since 1999 and holding his fourteenth term. A practicing dentist before politics, Simpson graduated from Utah State University and Washington University's School of Dental Medicine and served in the Idaho House for more than a decade as speaker before entering Congress. He represents an eastern Idaho district including Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls, and parts of Boise. Simpson is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he chairs the Interior and Environment Subcommittee, and serves as Ranking Member of the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee. He is known for his notable proposal to restore salmon runs by breaching lower Snake River dams, balancing agriculture, fisheries, and power generation concerns. Simpson is running for reelection in the May 19, 2026 Republican primary.
