Biography

Nick LaLota is a Navy veteran and second-term Republican from Long Island serving on Appropriations, Homeland Security, and Small Business committees.

Nicholas James LaLota represents New York's 1st Congressional District spanning eastern Long Island including Suffolk County's East End and the Hamptons. A U.S. Naval Academy graduate and surface warfare officer, LaLota brings military expertise to Congress. He served on local government boards before his 2022 election. In the 119th Congress, LaLota was selected as one of five exceptional new members for the House Appropriations Committee, where he serves on subcommittees covering Financial Services, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. He also serves on the Homeland Security Committee's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee and the Small Business Committee. LaLota's priorities focus on veterans affairs, military readiness, cybersecurity infrastructure, and the SALT deduction cap affecting his high-tax Long Island constituents and coastal environmental concerns.
