A graduate of Southwestern University, Sessions worked in telecommunications for Southwestern Bell before his political career. He served in the House from 1997 to 2019 representing a Dallas-area district before losing his seat in 2018. He returned to Congress in 2021 representing the 17th District, which covers Waco and central Texas. Sessions chaired the House Rules Committee from 2013 to 2019, a position that made him one of the most powerful Republicans, controlling what bills reached the House floor. He served as Vice Chair of the Rules Committee in the 119th Congress and chairs the Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process. Sessions sits on the Financial Services and Oversight committees, focusing on procedural matters and fiscal accountability.
