Raul Ruiz is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 25th District, an emergency physician and former Congressional Hispanic Caucus chair serving on Energy and Commerce in the 119th Congress.
Raul Ruiz is the U.S. Representative for California's 25th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2012 and currently serving his seventh term in the 119th Congress representing a Coachella Valley and Imperial County district in Southern California's inland desert region. The son of Mexican-American farmworkers from Coachella, Ruiz earned degrees from UCLA and became the first Latino to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard University, including a medical degree, a master's in public policy, and a master's in public health. He practiced as an emergency room physician before entering Congress. He previously served as chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and in the 119th Congress sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee, focusing on healthcare access, rural health, tribal issues, and Latino community concerns.
