Robin Kelly is an Illinois Democrat and gun-safety champion serving her final House term before running for U.S. Senate in 2026.
Robin Lynne Kelly represents Illinois's 2nd Congressional District, having served since 2013 in her seventh term before announcing her departure. A Bradley University graduate, Kelly worked in municipal government and served in the Illinois House and as Cook County's chief administrative officer, and chaired the Illinois Democratic Party. She represents a district covering Chicago's South Side, southern suburbs, and rural central Illinois. In the 119th Congress, Kelly served on the House Energy and Commerce, Foreign Affairs, and Oversight committees, championing gun-violence prevention, Black maternal health, rural broadband expansion, and federal procurement equity. In May 2025, she announced her candidacy for the 2026 United States Senate race, triggered by retiring incumbent Dick Durbin's seat, concluding her House service at the end of the 119th Congress.
