Stephen Lynch is a 12-term Democratic U.S. Representative from Massachusetts's 8th District representing South Boston, a former ironworker and union leader.
Stephen Francis Lynch has represented Massachusetts's 8th Congressional District, including South Boston and southern suburbs, since winning a 2001 special election. Born in South Boston public housing, Lynch worked nearly two decades as an ironworker and served as president of Ironworkers Local 7 in Boston before pursuing higher education. He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston College Law School, and Harvard's Kennedy School, then served in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature. In the U.S. House, he serves on the Oversight and Accountability Committee and Financial Services Committee, where he brings deep expertise in labor issues, veterans affairs, and financial regulation. Lynch also champions Northern Ireland and Irish American interests in foreign policy. His legislative work centers on worker protections, union rights, and economic justice for working families and veterans.
