Suhas Subramanyam is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Virginia's 10th District and Virginia's first Indian American in Congress.
Suhas Subramanyam is the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 10th Congressional District, serving since January 2025. He made history as Virginia's first Indian American and first Hindu elected to Congress. Born in Houston, Texas, to Tamil physician parents who emigrated from India, Subramanyam is a graduate of Tulane University and Northwestern University School of Law. He served as a senior technology policy adviser in the Obama White House before practicing law and entering Virginia politics. Subramanyam was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019, becoming the first South Asian American in the Virginia General Assembly, and served in the Virginia Senate from 2024 to 2025. His 2024 congressional victory narrowly defeated Republican Mike Clancy by 4.6 percentage points. Representing a rapidly developing Northern Virginia district covering all of Loudoun and Fauquier counties and parts of Rappahanock, Prince William, and Fairfax counties, he sits on committees addressing technology policy and federal workforce issues.
