Biography

Tom Suozzi is a Ways and Means Committee Democrat from Long Island who returned to Congress in February 2024 after a gubernatorial bid.

Thomas R. Suozzi represents New York's 3rd Congressional District covering portions of Nassau County and Queens on Long Island. A Boston College and Fordham Law School graduate, Suozzi served as Glen Cove mayor and Nassau County Executive before his initial congressional service from 2017-2023. After leaving Congress to run unsuccessfully for New York governor in 2022, Suozzi won a special election in February 2024 to replace expelled Congressman George Santos. In the 119th Congress, Suozzi serves on the House Ways and Means Committee with subcommittee assignments in Oversight and Tax, bringing him influence over national fiscal policy. He co-chairs the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, reflecting his moderate Democratic positioning. Suozzi prioritizes SALT deduction reform, border security, infrastructure investment, and pragmatic fiscal policy that benefits his middle-class suburban district.
