United States Senator from VA

Tim Kaine is the junior U.S. Senator from Virginia, a former governor and Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate serving his third term.
Timothy Michael Kaine, Virginia's junior senator since 2013, brings deep experience in foreign policy and democratic institution-building to the Senate. A St. Paul, Minnesota, native who settled in Richmond, Virginia, Kaine graduated from the University of Missouri and Harvard Law School, taking a year off during law school to work as a Jesuit volunteer teaching carpentry in Honduras—an experience that shaped his lifelong focus on Latin America and service. He served on Richmond's city council, as mayor of Richmond, as lieutenant governor, as Virginia governor from 2006 to 2010, and as Democratic National Committee chair. Elected as Hillary Clinton's running mate on the 2016 Democratic presidential ticket, he was subsequently re-elected to the Senate in 2018 and 2024. In the 119th Congress, Kaine serves on Foreign Relations, Armed Services, HELP, and Budget committees, and has focused extensively on the congressional role in authorizing military force, Latin American policy, education, and Virginia's federal workforce and military installations.
