U.S. Representative from TX, District 23

Republican U.S. Representative from Texas's 23rd District since 2021; retired Navy cryptologist representing the U.S.-Mexico border.
Tony Gonzales is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 23rd Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2020. A 20-year U.S. Navy veteran who served as a cryptologist and cryptologic warfare officer, Gonzales earned a master's degree from Texas Lutheran University. He represents a sprawling district covering more than 800 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border from El Paso's southeastern suburbs to San Antonio. Gonzales sits on the House Appropriations Committee and focuses on border security, military issues, and Hispanic outreach, positioning himself as a moderate Republican. In the 2024 primary, conservative challengers forced him into a runoff, which he won with 50.7% of the vote. In early 2026, scandal emerged following allegations of an affair with his former aide; he subsequently withdrew from the primary runoff.
