Veronica Escobar is a Democrat from Texas's 16th District, one of the first two Latinas elected to Congress from Texas, serving in her fourth term representing El Paso.
Veronica Escobar is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 16th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2018 serving her fourth term. A native of El Paso born in 1969, Escobar graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso and earned her master's degree from New York University. She served on the El Paso County Commission from 2007 to 2011 and as El Paso County Judge from 2011 to 2017, the county's top executive office. Upon her election to Congress, she became one of the first two Latinas from Texas to serve in Congress alongside Sylvia Garcia. Escobar serves on the House Judiciary Committee, Armed Services Committee, and Ethics Committee, and in December 2022 was elected as one of three co-chairs of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, a leadership role. She focuses on immigration, border issues, and the important Fort Bliss military installation in her district.
