Yassamin Ansari is the U.S. representative for Arizona's 3rd Congressional District, a Democrat sworn in January 2025 after winning the seat vacated by Ruben Gallego when he was elected to the U.S. Senate. The daughter of Iranian immigrants, Ansari grew up in Arizona and graduated from Stanford and Cambridge. She served as a senior climate policy advisor at the United Nations, working in the offices of Secretary-Generals Ban Ki-moon and António Guterres, where she contributed to the Paris Climate Accord and the UN Climate Action Summit agenda. Elected to the Phoenix City Council in 2021 and vice mayor, Ansari focused on climate resilience and affordable housing in one of the country's hottest and fastest-growing cities. In the House, she serves on Natural Resources as Ranking Member of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee. Her priorities include climate adaptation and clean energy, housing affordability, reproductive rights, and advocacy for Iranian human rights and diaspora communities.
